Celebrate the End of Summer with a Cheese-tastic Picnic

August 22, 2017

Whether you're looking for one last get together with the kids before summer ends or wanting a romantic opportunity with that special someone, Fromagerie Sophie has the perfect picnic planned.

When heading out with the family, remember these tips:

  • Don’t only focus on the food. Pick a theme and pack books, costumes or toys to inspire their imaginations creating a world centered around play.

  • Plan food that ties into a theme like cheese from a certain country, deli sandwiches with meat from an area that’s similar to what they usually eat, and snacks that tell a cultural story. Use local shops to help find a few fun and unexpected items.

  • Let the kids help prepare the food. Layering sandwiches or using frozen grapes as ice cubes are tasks that help kids feel excited and engaged.

  • Create a scavenger hunt. Pick items that are easy to find take it a step further by taking photos of the items being used in creative ways.

  • Have the kids decorate cupcake wrappers and turn them upside down, punching through them with a straw turning the wrappers into eco-friendly drink lids that keep the bugs out!

And if you're picnic is just for the grown-ups, here are some ways to make your sweetie swoon:

  • Plan ahead! A little prep goes a long way when picnicking away from the crowds. Take it up a notch with throw blankets and coordinating pillows for an Instagram-worthy image.

  • Grab some lavender bouquets and spread them around the blanket creating a lovely scene while also keeping inspects away. Lavender is a natural repellant!

  • Stock up on battery-powered candles to set the stage while limiting fire danger. The candles aren’t scented so they won’t interfere with the lavender scent or with the food.

  • Leave the libations to the pros. Utilize resources, like Fromagerie Sophie, to plan perfect pairings for wine and cheese or crackers and pâté.

  • Try canned wine to cut down on extra items like corkscrews and glasses while also making the event more eco-friendly.
